Macbook Firmware Update required GUID, Oh No!
So I had recently upgraded the hard drive in my macbook pro to the 380 gig 7200 rpm version and formatted it as I always did, Journaled & Extended.
Shortly afterwards I attempted to upgrade the firmware to 1.3 and I ran into an issue. I had not selected “GUID” from the partition menu when formatting the new drive and the firmware update didn’t like it. According to apple, solution #1 was to boot up from the old drive (externally) and run the firmware update as “the update doesn’t apply to the hard drive but the computer.”
So I did that and after restarting back up with my new drive my keyboard and mouse (trackpad) didn’t work, and the computer would not accept external input. After digging around for solutions and not finding any I ended up having to back up all my data from the new drive on to another external drive and re-format my new drive with the GUID. Then I loaded my data back on to the new drive and it booted up with everything working.
It took a while, which was annoying but wasn’t that difficult.
