Evidence that Demands a Verdict by Josh McDowell

June 16th, 2008 by Justin

I am trying to read this book because a couple of ministers thought it would silence my objections to Christian faith.

I picked it up at the library hoping for sound arguments for the deity of Jesus and the authority of scripture. Contrary to what I hoped, I found that this book is written for the exclusive purpose of making illiterate Christians feel like their faith is rational. If it is successful at that goal, it will only be because of the lack of intelligence of it’s audience.

It does not seriously address critics of Christianity, but systematically sets up straw man arguments and knocks them down. It is a complete misrepresentation of the issues that critics really have, which makes it a truly deceptive book.

Two thumbs down!
